Not sure what's growing in the field in the foreground. Those are lotuses to the left of the rice paddies (from this point of view). Beyond the fields, in the middle distance, is Yuishinzan 唯心山.

In the Edo period (1603-1868 CE), the feudal lord who lived in the nearby castle and enjoyed these gardens would drink tea made from this field, if I understand correctly. I presume the same is true for all produce that was grown here.

Most famous in the autumn when they turn brocade colors, maple leaves when they are green are an iconic symbol of early-summer verdure.

Like other Edo period gardens, this one includes yatsuhashi in a marsh planted with irises in reference to the azuma-kudari 東下り chapter in the Tale of Ise 伊勢物語.
