Apparently those islands and adjacent flats visible in this photo are "recognized by the National Audubon Society and is one of the most significant inland stopover sites in the eastern United States for tens of thousands of shorebirds." Sounds like it would be a neat place to paddle.

Oh yeah. It's been a couple of years since I was in a kayak/canoe, but that sounds very appealing.
